About us

Edith’s Field

My husband and I were very lucky to be able to be able to purchase our field : ‘ Edith’s Field ‘ in 2008 to provide a home for our 6 rescue pigs that we had at that time. Unfortunately, they have since died but they lived for far longer than commercial pigs to the age of 17 years.

Since we purchased the field we have gradually added pig housing, field shelters, extra fencing and planted new wild life friendly hedgerows.

Over the years we have provided a home for various animals. At present we have 2 ponies, a cow, 2 steers, 3 goats and 3 pigs.

We have tried to work with nature and have established a wild flower margin and we leave the grass on the pony paddocks to grow in to ‘ standing hay’ which attracts hares, a healthy insect population and is alive with Meadow Brown butterflies in the summer.

Non-Profit

Ours is a ‘Not for Profit’ business. We have chosen Eyes on Animals to support this charity as they are undertaking two projects which are very close to our hearts as we have spent most of our working lives with pigs . The 1^st project they have designed uses a better way of stunning pigs than the very cruel CO2 stunning used in the majority of pig processing plants. The 2^nd project is involved in  building a modern pig farm that will demonstrate a more humane,environmentally friendly and yet less labour intensive system for rearing pigs.

They are of course still very much involved in improving the lives of other farm animals.
